for the joy that was set before him
a rugged cross stood still
the smell of blood encircling still
the raw cracked hands and drying blood from his pierced hands and feet
There laid my Savior, a crown on his head, yet in his agony he could be heard uttering the words,
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
Father, take this cup from me, he had cried out hours before
But if not, your will be done
He endured
He endured for the joy set before him
Joy is the pressing in for the greater ahead
the reality of living in the present while knowing the promise of what’s to come
Gazing into the Father’s eyes full of hope and expectancy, knowing he is good and true to his word
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven
The joy that surpasses happiness because joy was never a feeling but a choice
If he chose joy in the midst of surrender, we get to choose it too
He paid for joy in all circumstances, his suffering was not in vain
Enter in through the gates of joy and praise,
the anthem of heaven
the victory dance of the generations of the King
"For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2
